May 2019 - Kingwood Flood, end of school year, dance recitals, Swim season, going away party and more

This May was a little different than the ones in the past. In Kingwood Texas this year we had crazy flooding, just due to a large amount of rain in a short period of time. Post Hurricane Harvey the drainage seems to be less effective. Luckily our home was fine but the kids school took in a great deal of water and was closed for 3 weeks. The school was so awesome they after the first week they opened the old church and had the teachers work a daycare to help the working parents continue to go to work at no charge. They were able in a few weeks to get it fixed temporarily but will spend the entire summer break completing the renovations.

The day after the rain the repairs started - they jumped on it quickly!

Our backyard - you can see the standing water but overall we were lucky

More standing water in our yard.

May means end of dance! Both Maggie and Riley dance at a lovely studio here in Kingwood called Stacy's Dance Studio. Riley has been blessed to have Ms Stacy herself teach her the past two years. Due to the flooding the dance recitals had to be moved and were shifted back to the studio instead of the usual high school venue but it all worked out.

The recital was great and I thought the girls did amazing!

May is one of my favorites months - its the start of SWIM TEAM! This year we decided to switch the kids swim team from the Elm Grove Village Otters to the Mills Branch Marlins. We swam on the Otters for two seasons and were just not pleased with the coaching the last season or the boards organization. Lucky for us one of our favorite swim coaches, coach Nathan Townsend that we stayed in contact over the years reached out and told us he was hired to be the head coach for the Marlins so it was a very easy decision for us to make! The kids had a few friends form school that swam on the Marlins too so overall it was a great move for us. Last season Riley was swimming well but due to her ear issues she had to miss quite a lot of races. So far this year her ears are stable and we went and got custom earplugs from the ENT so hopefully we will be able to finish the season!

We have been so blessed with some awesome friends while here in Houston. We will miss them terribly as we take our adventure in Sakhalin. Of course these two families- the McComas and the Beal family were the first to get on our calendar for a farewell celebration with all of our families. Its so much fun with this crew - we laugh until our faces hurt and our kids get along so well. We have been friends with the Beals since I worked with Tory before getting married and having kids. I was blessed to work with Mary Elizabeth McComas 6 years ago after having Carter and we have been friends ever since. We are lucky and although we will be far away for a few years - these are the types of friends I know we will stay connected with.

Riley continues to make me laugh with her school writing.

Cousin Mila came over for a swim!!
