My baby turned 6! He is no longer one hand anymore! I am glad to see him continue to grow and mature and we are really proud of the little guy he is becoming. with each year he becomes less of a kid and more like a little man. He is so smart it's scary. This kid impresses me daily with his vocabulary, reading skills, memory and his comprehension of things. He is so much like his daddy and really is fantastic with numbers and all things math. He loves movies, especially complex movies like Harry Potter and Star Wars. Carter loves his Karate so It was not surprise that this year he wanted to have his party at TKD his Karate Studio. He wanted to show all his friends the sport that he loves so much.

Riley had her annual father daughter dance at her dance studio. She loves this special time with her dad. Mags didn't get to go this year due to a conflict with a New Orleans trip. Riley went this year with her friend/neighbor Reagan and her dad Tony. The girls had a great time!

The kids have started watching WWE Wrestling with their dad (yes Justin still LOVES wrestling). The kids got tickets to see the WWE event here in Houston - the Elimination Chamber. Justin, the kids and uncle Jeff went. They were so excited! the kids got WWE championship belts from Santa so the kids wore those to the event.
One of Riley's classmates mom got married so we got to go to a family wedding. My two kids love weddings and enjoy the DJ and dancing the best. Since everyone was dressed we got the opportunity to take some decent family pictures!
I was able to attend the kids annual valentines day parties. They school always does a great job!

Riley has been wanting to get her ears pierced so bad! Given her ear history I was not going to let her do anything that would compromise her healing. We had a Dr apt in February with her ear surgeon and I told her she would have to ask the Dr and if she said ok, I would allow it. Her Dr appointment went awesome... The Dr is very pleased with Riley's hearing progress and we are on visits now every 6 months. I am glad that this problem seems to be behind us..at least for now! So I took her to Sweet and Sassy and we now have pierced ears!

This year I volunteered to teach JR Achievement at St Marthas. Junior Achievement is a great program that they use working professional to teach children age appropriate lessons about community, government and other real life lessons. They assigned me 2nd grade so I get to teach Riley's class. On day 1 they told us to wear a uniform if we have one so I wore my FRC and steel toe boots and the responses were awesome. A lot of the girls told me... girls don't dress like that! It was a great life lesson for all!
This was the not so fun part of this month. Back in November we had the unfortunate experience of meeting with a crazy parent with a daughter in Carters class. This mother was all bent out of shape because Carter TOUCHED (not hit) TOUCHED her daughter on the face. I was so annoyed that the mother made a big deal and so did the school. At my encouragement the school agreed to let the two kids talk but I was told the only way the other mother would do it is if we all were present. So it was me, Justin, school Counselor, Principal, Carter, the girl, the girls mom and the girls grandma. When Grandma came I knew this was not going to be as effective as I had hoped. Long story short the lady and her mother were offensive and it was clear they have no tolerance for Carter. Grandma told Justin she thinks Carter is like John Nash from A beautiful mind and told us that her daughter is terrified to go to school because of Carter - stating since she touched him - she doesn't know where this will end - next he could punch her in the face. Even though this family was completely irrational - I still gave the mom my phone number and told her - hey if Carter does anything that upsets you or your daughter let me know and I will deal with it. Months go by and we hear nothing... and then in February I get a call at work from the vice principal telling me that the cops showed up at ST Marthas stating an assault charge was filed against Carter - MY 6 YEAR OLD!
The school was frustrated and so was I. After a ton of discussion and investigation we had found out that the day before in PE class Carter was lining up at the end and was wiggling in line and "bumped into" the girl behind him. The girl behind him did not cry, did not bleed and did not go to the nurse. She did not even fall down! The PE teacher saw the entire thing and told Carter to get out of line and to go wiggle it out off to the side until he is ready to get back in line. That was the end of the consequences. If you have followed Carters journey you know that his school at time has pretty big consequences so for them to give a small consequence means it really was no big deal. I guess that night the little girl went home and I am sure her mother said - did Carter do anything to you today? And she said yeah he bumped into me... so she called the police and literally filed an assult charge. The police officer came to school the next day - looked at the little girl - did not talk to Carter since he is a minor and I am not there - and since there was no signs of assault on the girl - no further action was taken. The cop wrote the report and that was it. All I can obtain is the public record which is shown below. I am furious with this mother for doing something so stupid and I went all the way to the pastor of the church to tell him how I felt. The good news is this mom will not be returning to St Marthas next year. I made it clear that if she did, I would not.
On a more positive note - Carter tested for his green belt this month and got it! His tests are getting harder and he is having to practice more at home but he is still enjoying it and working hard! I love his belt tests and watching my guy do what he loves!
