I will start my August post with the good things. Both my kids were very excited about the start of a new school year! While they enjoyed their summer at Children's Learning Adventure I think they were ready to get back to structure and to their Saint Martha's Friends. Carter is in Pre-K 4 this year with Ms Nina Prisco and Riley is in 1st Grade with Ms Pauline Herrera. The kids classes are a great mix of some of their old friends and a lot of new friends.

There was a kids festival in Kingwood right by the apartment. The kids had a ton of tun seeing the cars from the Disney movie Cars. They loved riding the horses, the petting zoo and the train!

At the end of August Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area. We were living in the apartment at the time but were days from our scheduled close date on the new house. The Apartment ended up taking in 81 inches of water. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would take in that much water. Silly me thought we would take a few inches so we put our furniture up on tupperware but that did not help. Water covered our master bedroom, master closet, living room, kitchen and garage. Luckily the kids rooms upstairs were ok and we were able to salvage their things. My brilliant husband did take out a flood insurance policy on the apartment so we were covered but this was a royal pain in the rear! This was a huge work effort to clean up and get our stuff out and we were very blessed to have family and friends to help us. Jeff and Kristen were amazing in helping us sludge through our things and inventory them for insurance. They also opened their door to our family while we were homeless. Friends really stepped up during this time providing us food, washing clothes, babysitting services, shelter, and anything else we needed. We are beyond blessed that our family was safe and we have such an incredible support system.

Luckily the new house was high and dry - this was the worst the water got.
