May was another busy month. Riley and I flew to Louisiana to say our goodbyes to Grandma Shirley. I did a reading and Riley brought up the gifts. The church was beautiful and so many people came to say their goodbyes. I was so glad Riley and I were able to be there for this and spend time with our family.

While we were gone - Carter enjoyed a fun pizza party with his friends from school and the school counselor that has become a great friends of the family Ms. Jennifer Drake. While at the annual school fundraiser we bid and won a lunchtime pizza party. Carter selected some of his Pre-K friends and some of his Kindergarten friends and they seemed to have a blast!
Riley had her 1st Grade Field Trip. Her class spent the day at an old schoolhouse. They had to dress in clothes from the period and spend the day like kids did during that time frame. She had so much fun and learned a lot!
The school is making new marketing materials and sent me this professional photo they took of Riley - My beautiful Catholic School Girl!
Swim team gets super busy in May and this is one of my favorite months. Although its totally crazy busy its so much fun to see these two kids work so hard and swim their hearts out. They have made a lot of great friends and have both improved. They are great swimmers!
Riley has moved up and is now swimming in the 7-8 age group. She can now swim more strokes including breast and butterfly. I was so proud of how awesome she did in her first butterfly race! Carter came out of the gate strong too!

Dance recital time comes the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby at Rileys studio. This year she finished her second year of Jazz and her class danced to the song, "Dance with your daddy". They decided to bring out the dads which was a super cute add and Justin thoroughly enjoyed. Riley loves her dance class and we love watching her grow and improve!
Carter and Mags had a blast participating in the pre- show festivities

My mothers day card from Carter - classic - mom I am sorry you have a mean boss. I do have a mean boss and I tell him stories in the hopes that I can share how to deal with touch situations. Justin thinks this will bite me if he ever meets her!

Riley won the first grade English Award! So proud of her and her hard work!
Carter has a girl Addison at school he really likes - this is his card for her - NOTE - Addison did not get the card!
We were able to take the kids to the Astros game. They had a blast but my two had just finished a swim meet so they were running on fumes and were exhausted. We all enjoyed ourselves and had a lot of fun. Obligatory baseball pictures below.
Since Cater moved to Kindergarten mid year we had lots of debate and met with the school at the end of the year to decide what we think collectively was best for Carter going into the 18-19 School year. After much debate we think its best Carter go back to Kindergarten. While Carter is super smart. his emotional intelligence and maturity is just not ready for 1st grade in my opinion. I have confidence the Kindergarten teachers will be able to academically challenge Carter and allow him to socially and emotionally develop this next year. I have talked to the principal, counselor and both kindergarten teachers so I think we are all on the same page. Since I was not moving him to 1st grade I did not want to confuse him and let him participate in the kindergarten graduation. I am blessed to have awesome parents who came into town while I was at work and took Carter to the Natural Science Museum for an great day of dinosaurs.
