This summer was busy but of course a ton of fun. The kids are still in school but they get to enjoy a lot less structure and in house field trips. For some reason this summer seems to be hotter than usual so we try our best to limit outdoor activities and enjoy as much time as possible in the pool. The kids are keeping us busy with activities. Both kids are in swim lessons this summer with the same coach we had last summer. We love Coach Omar and he has been fantastic with both kids. Riley is swimming like a fish and can swim backstroke and freestyle. Her coach says she is one of the fastest 4 years olds he has ever seen swim backstroke. She has just started learning the dolphin kick in hopes to master the butterfly. A few weeks ago some friends had asked us to meet them at the our neighborhood gym pool for a playdate. I honestly have never brought the kids to swim at the gym because we have our own pool but figured it would be something different and fun to do with friends. When we got to the pool Riley saw the slide and expressed interested in going down. The rules at the pool are you have to pass a swim test to get a wristband or an X to go down the slide. I asked Riley if she wanted to take the test... honestly thinking that she would not want to do it and she was completely confident and said I want to do this. The swim test to get the wristband is to swim one length of the lap pool (25 yards). I do a fair amount of swimming for exercise and that is a long distance... especially for a four year old. I figured she would make it half way to get the X but did not think she would be able to make it all the way to the end. Sure enough she did! I was so proud of her and her fearless spirit! People were crowding around and high giving her after she finished! She was on cloud 9! See video below:
Carter has also made a ton of progress on his swimming this summer. He started not wanting to get in the pool at all without his float but now he is jumping in on his own and getting pretty good at treading water! I could not be prouder of our little guy and all his hard work.
Riley has also been playing soccer this summer. She is really starting to learn and understand the game. She is very competitive which is good but still struggles with being aggressive and stealing the ball from others. I like the program that she is in with JC Sports because they teach her the fundamentals and really work with them. She practices once a week and they finish with 1:1 or 3:3 games. We have decided to put her in a fall league that starts in September. I am curious to see how she does.
Other than all of our extra curricular activities we have been enjoying lots of family time! We have been fortunate to get to spend a bunch of time with Nanny and Uncle Jeff, Miss Susan, Paw Paw and Granny, Uncle Billy and Caroline. The kids are all growing so fast and really are getting super close. They play so well together and are a lot of fun to watch!
