We had Riley's birthday party 10 days before her actual birthday since most of our family and friends were going to be tied up doing Christmas stuff. On Riley's actual birthday Justin's mom was in town. It was a pretty low key day with lots of playing around the house. I made Riley another cake, this one is a number 1. I decided to try and make her cake and give her a piece without any icing since the other times we tried to feed her cake she never even tried it. She could not get over the sticky feeling of the icing on her hands. It was a hit and she actually ate a good bit of the red velvet cake! She takes after her mom and dad! Nanny and Uncle Jeff came over to celebrate with us and we had a great time.
For me its tough to come to grips with the fact that I no longer have a baby, I have a 1 year old. No longer can I count her age in months... we are in years. I look back at the past year with fond memories and I am very proud of the little girl Riley is growing up to be. With that being said... I do miss the cuddly baby that I once had. Now I have a toddler that cannot sit still and is into everything. She is walking and pulling up but only holding on to things. When she realizes she is not holding on to something, she gets scared and lets herself down. I guess I should be grateful she is overly cautious! Justin and I are having so much fun watching Riley explore the world around her!
We took Riley for her 1 year doctor visit and to my friends that have no yet reached this milestone WARNING... it was rough! Usually I am pretty good at the doctor but Riley got 5 shots! She was not a happy camper! Her doctor visit went very well though and the Dr is very pleased at her progress. She weighs 21 3 and 1/2 pounds, Length is 29.5, and her head is 18 inches. She has officially transitioned from formula to exclusively whole milk and is no longer using a bottle. Her transition to table food is not going as well as I had hoped but we just keep trying. We are mostly offering her table food but giving her baby food because she will not eat the table food. Next on our list is to break Riley of the Pacifier!
